What Are The Habits Causes Sensitive Skin That You Don’t Realize

Stop! Please stop doing these because I have experienced it myself and it gave me such a nightmare. I used to have most of these habits that caused me damage skin. After in-depth research, I tried to end it, and surprisingly, IT WORKS!

I want to share the journey of my recovering from sensitive skin by ending these routines.

We shall start with popular habits amongst us, Malaysian.

Popping zits
It’s tempting, I know. But when you squeeze a pimple, it pushes bacteria more in-depth into the pores that will cause inflammation, infection, and scarring (sometimes it’s a permanent damage on the skin) — and it also doubles the zit’s life span up to two one week or two.

“Treating any breakout with too much benzoyl peroxide damages the skin around the spot and can cause more irritation,” – Jeffrey Dover, Boston dermatologist.

It is incredible not to have pimples anymore, but until this day, I have scars from the effect of popping pimples on my forehead. And it is not easy as I have tried multiple products to deprive it of my face. Would you continue popping zits from your face?

Never change pillowcases
Changing bed sheets and pillowcases are rarely amongst Malaysian. Why? Only you know why. But do you know dirty pillowcases can affect your skin with germs—bacteria? It is an obvious unsatisfactory for your skin.

I leave my pillowcases for more than two months without changing it, and that is one of the reasons why I had breakouts. It was horrifying since I had classes to attend and presentations to do.

I started to change my bedsheets as well as my pillowcases eternally; my skin became better!

Start changing your pillowcases constantly and see the differences!

Sleep with makeup on
Some of you ladies had a very long and tiring day. Either go to events, programs or came back from work or even go out on a date! You went back home, saw your large comfy bed, and immediately lie down without having to remove your makeup. It is not good for your skin, you know?

I rarely wear makeup, but when I do, sometimes I am too idle to remove my make up and sleep with it until the next morning. The next thing I know, my skin became oily, and few pimples popped out. Oh my.

The foundation that you and I have been using has blocked our pores to breathe. Your skin needs to breathe after facing polluted air with your makeup on. Some composition contains oil or other ingredients that can cause acne or breakouts. Practice yourself always to clean your makeup from your face, especially before you sleep.

Using dirty makeup brushes
Ah, a prevalent mistakes by us all ladies. Same as not washing your makeup away from your face, this can be a habit too. When we have complete with the brushes, we put it back at the place; in a makeup bag or the rack of makeup brushes.

You sometimes think that it is okay not to wash any of these brushes — wrong honey. The acne-causing bacteria, dead skin cells, and bacteria can clog your pores, which lead to breakouts and might as well caused bacterial infections. You wouldn’t want that, would you?

Picking wrong products
Trying out new products to find a suitable one is commonly act by those who dealt with skin problems.

You should identify your skin type first before you proceed in purchasing any skincare products. This is to narrow down the list of products you should buy before you apply them on your skin.

Sometimes, your skin is not that bad, but because you applied the wrong skincare product, there goes your skin. It didn’t fix your skin; it worsens it — the mother of a nightmare for all ladies.

Taking a hot shower
You might not know this, because I know most of you love to take a shower with hot water. It is a relief, right? Adjust your shower to warm water. It relaxes your skin and prevent from irritation.

Smoking
You need a reason to quit? Now, it is time. Smoking can develop more and deeper wrinkles and blotchy skin tone and will cause damage to your health. The smoke that came out from the cigarette will affect your lungs, that lead to your blood circulation, which travels to your whole body, including your skin. Still having that feeling of smoking?

Eating junk food
We eat junk food while watching TV, doing your assignment, or during your leisure time. Stop. Fat diets on sugar can speed up the aging process.

“High-glycemic foods cause your blood sugar to rise, triggering a surge of insulin. The insulin stimulates oil-producing hormones called androgens, leaving you with pimples,” says Baumann.

I know it is your favorite to eat these junk food, I used to and STILL taking junk food, but I decided to reduce the intake – once every 2 or 3 months. For this part, I am not asking you to stop, but try to cut it for the sake of your skin and your health.

Over exfoliating
You want to get rid of it so bad! This annoying acne or breakouts must vanish as soon as possible! That’s what you said; similar to what I said before. Thus I used face scrub that particularly significant in blemish control. And I feel remorse about it.

Harshly scrubbing your face that contains acne is a shoddy move. You may be tempted to scrub your skin clean to get rid of acne. Don’t. Scrubbing can irritate your skin, causing acne to flare.

Hence, too much exfoliating or harsh cleansing can exacerbate oil production and worsen breakouts by spreading bacteria.

Frequent phone chatter
Your mobile phone is dirtier than you think. 95% of the population in the world are using smartphones; one of them is we always on the phone to chat with the other party.

Fun fact: your cell phone contains roughly 25,000 germs of each square inch.

No wonder your face sometimes appear acne or breakouts out of no reason.

Staying up late
Sleepless, stress can aggravate all skin conditions.

“Sleep is also the time when your body repairs the damage from the day, and interrupting that process will slow down cell turnover.” – Karyn Grossman

In the short term, this can mess with the way blood flows to the skin, which can make your complexion sallow.

Not washing your face at night
When you are too tired or too lazy to go to the toilet and wash yourself up, all the dirt and a day’s worth of oil buildup on your skin will stay. Similar to leaving your makeup on, your skin is prone to acne. Sleeping is a process where your body temperature increases that enhance absorption of whatever on the surface of your skin.

Washing my face is the favorite routine of my daily life. It keeps my skin hydrated and healthy.

Skipping exercise/gym
Hit the gym, guys! Or work out at home. Anything to keep and increase your blood flow to the skin and have a healthy-looking flush! (You should wash your face immediately after the workout)

I learn it the hard way, where my studies made me stressed, and I had breakouts. I started to jog every day in the evening. Not only it improves my health, but it also decreases the tension that I had, which lead to better skin.

Lessen yourself, exercise and witness the smoother and brighter skin.
