1.Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is commonly found in acne products. When applied to the skin, it works by reducing the acne. However, it lead to side effects which you should avoid.

Why avoid?

MSDS states:

  • Possibly tumor promoter,
  • May act as mutagen; produces DNA damage in human and other mammalian cells.
  • Also, toxic by inhalation. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.

A dermatologist from Beverly Hills, Debra Luftman says that Benzoyl peroxide can reduce the ability of your skin to protect itself from the sun due to the thinning of the layer of your epidermis. Your skin will tend to dry and peel.

Thus, if you are concerned about the side effects, look for a personal care products with “SLS FREE” or “SLES FREE” label.

3. Parabens

You can probably found parabens used in various products as preservatives. Not always labeled. They act to stop fungus, bacteria and other microbes from growing in your personal care products, especially in moist, and warm environment in your washroom.

However, scientist all over the world has been debated about parabens that it harms our health.

Why avoid:

4. Fragrance

The word “fragrance” or “parfum” on the product label represents an undisclosed mixture of various scent chemicals and ingredients used as fragrance dispersants such as diethyl phthalate. While it gives you the pleasure to release your stress with the aroma, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

Why Avoid:

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep Database, fragrance concoction have been associated with:

  • Potential effects on the reproductive system.

Are you wondering why companies still continue using synthetic scents if they really harm us? The answer would be – they are cheaper.

5. Triclosan

Triclosan is synthetic antibacterial, very common in hand wash & soaps. It fights bacteria and eliminate the spread of disease and infectious agents. However, recent studies show it brings severe health and environmental risks, especially after it is degraded to dioxin that you need to avoid.

  • Organ system toxicity & irritations

Due to this issue, U.S, has ban triclosan and other dangerous chemical from being used in their products. We hope you think twice the next time you decide to buy products containing triclosan.

So why are we using this on our skin?
